We do the same thing leaving the beans until the first larvae pupate; then we flame the beans one row at a time. This has drastically reduced the pressure from our home grown bugs.

A farmer in MA told a group of us at NOFA MA summer conference that he doesn't plow in his old beans that he's through picking because they serve as a trap crap for the mex bean beatles.  I don't have many so I don't know in my own experience, but he's been farming for years-500 member CSA.
