Being in New England winter squash is a big favorite with our CSA members,
they have begun asking when it will be ready. As to when ripe. Butternut
squash turns a darker color, not really really dark but it goes from
cream/green to tan. It is best if its cured for 1-2 weeks before eaten.
I am unfamiliar with Cream of the Crop squash, but for all their
similarities ie orange flesh I do think there are taste differences. We
grow butternut, buttercup, acorn, a few Red Kuris. Bn it my fav. and acorn
my least fav. I grew buttercup last year for the first time and loved it Rd
Kuris ok. Oh have a few Delicatas sp?, I like those as well but they don't
have much flesh.
Grew a few pie pumpkins as well. Members enjoy those.
