In southern NJ the gereral recommendation to prevent BER, is to select your
tomato and pepper, ( peppers get it too) field a year in advance, Lime
heavily and plant hairy vetch, this combination works well for us. We
followup with gypsum incorperated before bedding and calcium nitrate
injected thru drip. If tomatoes are suffering from BER you can expect tip
burn on your cole and lettuce as well,this can lead to internal head rot if
not controlled. I have found that foliar sprays of calcium chloride works
well on these crops.BTW, Hi humidity slows movement of calcium thru plant
even with constant watering...Bob.
