Actually, bonemeal is not primarily for nitrogen as
stated earlier....it is usually 10-20% phosphorus, a small amount of nitrogen
and about 24% calcium. This is according to Grace Gershuny's START WITH THE
SOIL, and she adds, "It is the best source of readily available phosphorus,
useful for transplanting, and as an early season starter when soil microbes are
too sluggish to release much phosphorus from organic matter" (page
123)
But haven't checked on status of bonemeal for
organic certification.....
