Plants actually have a need for darkness. It doesn't have to be 12 or even 8
hours per night but certain physiological processes are dark-oriented. I
think it would be fine to supplement natural light so that the plants have
14-16 hours of light per day. But I wouldn't run it more than that. Besides,
it costs something to run those things that long. You want something back in
return.
