Hi list, Yikes just when I thought I knew what I was doing (CSA) a farmers
market opportunity falls in my lap. We know we need to branch out from our
CSA if we expect to make this business "profitable" and was toying with the
idea of on farm retail in addition to CSA. Then two days ago I find out
there is to be a new farmers market less than 2 miles from my house. Its
in the parking lot of a very successful store (strip type mall really but
its mostly one store everyone is going to). I think customer traffic has
potential.
Ok I know farmers markets have been discussed as of late but from primarily
the organization side of things and from what I gather the guy in charge
know what he doing !?, I spoke to him on the phone this am. It is to be a
growers only market which is good. Value added items are allowed but must
be made by the farmer. One women makes bread I guess (does she grow the
wheat ha ha).
I feel like I am 5 years bake in time just before we started the CSA,
nervous unsure, yike scared :).
I am a zone 5 grower opening day is June 18th, guess where I'll be, in the
Seattle area at a graduation. To important must go so will miss opening day
of farmers market. My first week June 25, yikes what will I have ready,
Swiss Chard?

I'd love some sugesstions of any kind, a pep talk would be great. I got the
impression my competion will be standard veggies not unusual stuff except
from another small grower who does grow only? unusual stuff. I did find out
that a hole in product is cut flowers, which is so wierd because I had
already planned on increasing my cut flower production beyond the CSA. So I
do think I will try to fill that niche.

What do you think about kits? Salsa kit tomatoes, onion, cilantro, hot
pepper, maybe garlic. Pesto kit, Tomatoe sauce kit tomatoes, oregano, basil
etc.
Herb kit Chicken flavorings a bunch that included rosemary, thyme, parsely
maybe marjoram. Rainbow tomato kit colored tomatoes in a container.

If its a good syrup year I think I will hold some supply out and have syrup
available in early summer, that fills a spot on the table :). I wonder if I
can sell eggs, forgot to ask.

Got to get some more yard long beans :). I love the idea of tying the
bunches with rafia.

I have ramble, nervous I guess. Any help appreciated. Beth
