We have a couple of Troybilts, circa early 1980s. The 6 HP is fine for a
backyard garden, but we have found it lacking in our larger market farming
enterprise. It works for cultivation of small weeds in perfect moisture
ground, or doing seedbed behind a tractor tiller (although the tractor
usually leave a great seedbed).

The other was originally a 7HP Kohler. It was a great tiller! But when we
had to replace the engine with a 8HP, it hasn't been quite as good a tiller.
We do use it a lot, however. The drive train has been rebuilt once. You
get a real feel for the quality of the machine when you look at and work
with those bronze gears.

All that said, the new tillers do not look as heavy, or as good quality as
our 20 year old ones. If we were pushed to buy a new tiller, I'm not sure
what we'd do. The ones available seem very overpriced for the quality. We do
keep our eyes open for used, older ones.
