Tom - we have never leased but for over 20 years we have made land available
for
gardens. We have the hose access for water and prepare the area and the
families/individuals plant, maintain and harvest their gardens. They choose
the size
also. In Vermont in the 70's a program called Gardens for All charged $25.00
a season
for a plot. Tilled and water available. Don't know if that is still going
on. We have
set the standard re: chemical use and for the most part the gardeners have not
compained. That is an educational part of the process and it is our land.
But we have
felt comfortabe sharing it with others and not leasing. I suppose if someone
wanted a
large plot and perhaps a CSA leasing would be considered but even then maybe
we would
just help with that garden on our land. It is wonderful to have
multi-generation
families come and garden and picnic for a day. The local food production for
the
future. Bev. and Chuck Henkel
