One comment about applying huge amounts of compost: our most recent soil test
showed 9.5% organic matter, and we were advised by the lab to only use
compost sparingly as a top dressing and to limit tilling in cover crops.
Symphylans have been a problem in this maritime climate and they thrive on
undigested organic matter. Our lab is Timberleaf, which does a lot of work
with organic growers.
