My seed starting mix is free- no money, just time to make.
I use a 50/50 mix of soil from our mature beds (minerally balanced) and
finished, screened
compost. the heavy compost addition helps hold water in the cells so we only
have to water
once a day.
I mix 2 5 gallon buckets of soil and 2 5 gallon buckets of compost in a
wheelbarrow. I keep
buckets of both on hand in the barn so i have them on hand for rainy days.
