If we all did what you're doing maybe we could fulfill the vision of tribal elders & progressives around the world. in truth, it's the only way.

To name but one example, you have presidential elections soon and from where I am standing it looks as if all the candidates that have a chance are outdoing one another to show that they will start a war with Russia and China as soon as they can. Clinton, the most likely next president, is the worst in this respect. So chances are we here in Europe will see our top soil turn into glass.

I can only do what I have always been doing, plant a few more tree seedlings, make compost and build soil. It is what nature itself does.

I have no hope it will change, except in isolated communities on marginal land. certainly the survivalists' bunkers will house skeletons only. some say the only thing between us & extinction is 6 inches of topsoil.

We are loosing 25 billion ton of top soil every year world wide. In the Northern hemisphere we convert oil into food extremely inefficiently. It often costing hundreds of times the energy in oil to produce an energy unit of food. In the Southern hemisphere agriculture uses mining of soil and nutrients instead.
Imo one of the main dangers is globalization that makes that it does not matter that locally destroying stupidity can take place. Food can always be imported from somewhere else (for now). If we all were more locally self sufficient the ongoing destruction locally would sooner be noticed and acted upon.

"The core of the challenge is not a lack of evidence, as the report authors have again made clear; it is the ideological support for an outmoded model of agriculture that continues to generate huge profits for the few, at the expense of long-term healthy agro-ecosystems and secure livelihoods."
