I have no hope it will change, except in isolated communities on marginal land. certainly the survivalists' bunkers will house skeletons only. some say the only thing between us & extinction is 6 inches of topsoil.

We are loosing 25 billion ton of top soil every year world wide. In the Northern hemisphere we convert oil into food extremely inefficiently. It often costing hundreds of times the energy in oil to produce an energy unit of food. In the Southern hemisphere agriculture uses mining of soil and nutrients instead.
Imo one of the main dangers is globalization that makes that it does not matter that locally destroying stupidity can take place. Food can always be imported from somewhere else (for now). If we all were more locally self sufficient the ongoing destruction locally would sooner be noticed and acted upon.
