Whoa, John, that's a pretty wild move. I'm afraid I'm past the age of starting over. Linux? Good for u. As for Open Source I stick with Firefox & Thunderbird.

To all: I've been out of touch for weeks due to technical difficulties. Windows 8 is a monster, but try getting a replacement laptop with earlier version.Slightly different problems here Paul. After almost 30 years of building a self sufficiency farm, giving it all my energy so that it could not be broken the old couple is moving out and starting afresh on 1 acre. The children want to take over on their own. Not so pleasant for us but we are getting older and eventually we would not be able to keep up with the tempo we have set ourselves all this time.
Bracing for winter weather here, trying to keep greens going for winter markets.

Working towards organic self sufficiency on a much smaller, new plot will be like an old native American giving away everything he possessed and walking naked into the wilderness proving that he is a man.
Built a rocket stove- mass heater + oven for cooking and finished a compost toilet today. Soon the place will be liveable.
Serious problems with the new land consist mostly of wild rabbits in their thousands and no running water near by. Working on a rabbit proof fence for the garden right now for they devour everything you plant. We should not be starving for meat anyway.
I also have a new PC but I opted for a Linux system this time. My conscience playing up. It has a lot of advantages over windows once you get used to it.
