ok, at what cost in capital investment, resources, expense, & labor? paul tradingpost@lobo.netThe story title and implied results are misleading from the overall picture of Growing Power.
Yes, it is being done, but as a result of a very energetic and compassionate non-profit organization spearheaded by Will Allen.
The underlying purpose is to provide education and occupation for youths in the inner city, while showing them ways to be useful to themselves and their community. The investment in capital and resources is not necessarily for the purpose of growing the food, but teaching people to grow the food in other places and to have a community within the city that has a purpose other than being cogs in the urban wheels of crime and 'busy'ness.
The output of food is only equal to the output in happier, more confident people who have traditionally been left behind, but will now move forward.
Will Allen does great work at Growing Power, but it's not to "grow 1 million pounds of food on 3 acres": it's to grow souls on precious little land.
