Elaine Ingham would go ballistic if you suggested
anaerobic fermentation to improve anything but leave that subject for a
moment.
If you want to grow trees then you have to start
with some serious studying to find out what trees could do well in your
location.
In our case, wind was a serious limiting factor and
it was only after we had established a series of parallel shelter belts
that other more valuable trees had any chance.
Another factor here is damage from rodents. I have
known a man to plant 7 thousand acorns with only three seedlings coming up.
So we now have a special green house where tree seeds are planted and seedlings
are removed when they are about to hit the roof in the planting
season.
There are specialised web sites like the "agro
forestry service" where they have loads of information and seeds for any tree
that might be of use to you.
It is a general rule that the more nitrate or
ammonia you give trees the faster they may initially grow but also the less
valuable and the more disease prone they will be. Almost all trees like fungal
mycelium close by and this you encourage by mulching with high carbon matter
such as wood shavings or shredded ramiel wood (from thin and green branches).
Mulching means leaving a layer of this stuff on top of the ground, never dig in.
With this treatment you are assured that your trees will never go short of
nitrogen unless you let the much dry out completely. (phosphate may
be another thing for that is not readily available in air)
