Yet one more point to go with
localization. We often hear people talk (as we do ourselves) about the benefits of local foodsheds. What needs to be also stressed is not that they would cure the problems of eColi and salmonella, (though better treatment of animals and nature would probably make them unlikely), but that by distributing our food dependence and diversifying the infrastructure, fewer people would be at risk for any one occurrence: and that includes businesses who distribute foods. Telling people not to eat tomatoes from Billy Bob's Farm is a lot smaller impact than telling them not to eat any nightshades from Mexico or Florida. What's next in the System, an Earth-wide recall of chicken? Sometimes, you DON'T want to "get with the program" because the program is just stupid. Dan C. |
