I would go over to the brixtalk group and ask over there. Recommendations have been tossed about over there before.

Subject: [Livingontheland] Refractometer recommendation?
I continue to be intrigued by BRIX being a reliable measurement of quality, and was wondering whether anyone could recommend a refractometer. There seems to be a huge array of them. I'm willing to spend a few bucks for one.
It's reductionist, I know, but I'm curious. I'd like to use this to promote good food-growing practices (which I am seemingly unable to get on track to do: I need to put my knowledge [gained mostly from this group] to work in some productive way.)
