That is a good statement. When you also consider that money spent on local foods with local farmers recirculates in your community and comes back to you, then it isn't as expensive as it seems at first glance. The 'green' revolution was actually a black revolution of Petroleum and long distance centralization. Funny how the same people who fight so hard against communism work twice as hard to set up centralized industrial planning. The only difference being the profit motive going to executives instead of Politiks.
A big part of the American food myth is that food should be cheap. It
should not. Food should, in fact, get top billing on our list of spending
priorities. To buy cheap food in order to afford an expensive lawnmower
demonstrates a perverted value system.
Cheap food isn't cheap. You just don't pay for it at the grocery store. You pay for it at the doctor, the gas station, and with our sons and daughters.
Living on the Land requires that people acknowledge that there is more to food than calories, and there is more to community than having a shopping mall 20 miles away.
Like Paul said, First buy Local, then Organic. After that, yer on yer own.
