Has anyone else found that straw mulching a veggie garden can result in a large habitat and breeding ground for slugs?
I always find it interesting that slugs seem to munch on decaying dead matter as well as live plant matter. Lay a piece of damp cardboard on the ground in a shady spot for a week and see the happy hoards that show up.
Similarly, the oft-prescribed moisture-holding dead layer of straw on top of a garden bed seems to be ideal for slugs.
