We have known and talked Peak Oil for 50 years.   So what got any attention? $ 3.00 gas.
When gas is $ 6.00 or maybe $10 then the market may demand what we needed to do 50 years ago.
) to 60 in 5 will be less urgent than 100MPG at 50.
And I suspect it will be with a diesel hybrid.  I'm waiting.   Look for one from South Korea?
China?  Detroit?   Probably not Detroit.  Their engineers are all in the PR dept.    Bob

I hope you're right and we do get swamped with people wanting help to learn. Unemployment and inflation are rising and the fake numbers are bad enough already. Gas costs and distribution costs will have to be passed on. Welfare is gradually being cut to the bone. Student tuition rising everywhere at state colleges. Utilities keep going up. I think simple pressure on the pocketbook is going to do more to wake up people than all the talk about peak oil.
