Hi Bert,
Was over at the old loading pen yesterday and ignoring things may work.
I needed some steel stakes to tie up some top heavy tomatoes, so I went to the corral to steal steel stakes from the failed grapes.
To my surprize, about four of the sixteen grapes are still there. The St. Croix is doing what St. Croix does, and defies dying. Though it is not as robust as my vines at home.
I found that some of the Prairie Star vines had found homes climbing and growing on the tops of burdock. The burdock was six feet tall.
So for all that time I papmered the corral and nothing worked for me. Ignore it and the plant pressure forced a few survivors to adapt.
My guess is that everything except the St. Croix dies back to the ground each winter, and even the St. Croix is hard pressed.
If there was only a market for burdock!
Later,
Tom
