Hi,

We brought it with us when we moved to Canada (Captan).

The fungicide in Wilson Fruit Tree spay does not control powdery mildew.

I can find no residential spray in Ontario that is rated for fruit and is rated as a good PM control.

Some claim that by changing the PH of the leaf surface (baking soda, milk, sulfur) will prevent PM by creating an inhospitable environment. PM only survives in a narrow PH range I am told,

It has not worked for me on the PM sensitive apple tree.

Later,
Tom
(PS: milk acidifies as it rots and breaks down. you can pour milk on stone work (or concrete) to encourage the growth of lichen, giving stomework an ancient look quickly)

I received scion wood of Opata from Margie Luffman in March 2002. Its grafted to Early Italian. I get lots of blossom, very little fruit. The few fruit I get are quite good. I'm going to graft P. nigra into the tree to help with polination.

What fungicide are you using for the powdery mildew on the apple?

Joe

Hi,

I gave my apple, which is powdery mildew sensitive a spray before the rain. I will spray it again after the rain (fungicide only at this time of year).

Where did you get the Opata cherryplum? What is the fruit like? Is it tree form or bush form? I have been seeking a cherryplum for a while now.

Later,
Tom

As of today, Apricot is in bloom (this is only a branch on a plum tree)
Pembina plum is at white tip
Opata cherryplum just starting into white tip
other hybrid plums are nearing white tipe
Early Italian plum at green tip
Lapins cherry leafed out and flower buds swelling
Grapes brown buds swelling
various pears at pre-bloom, should show white tip before a week is out
various apples from green tip to pre-bloom, no white tip yet
Saskatoons have leafed out, to young to bloom
Ribes all leafed out, Red Jacket goose berry starting to bloom, Random Red gooseberry almost at bloom.

I run into the same problem every year, when pears and apples should be sprayed at pre-bloom it is always raining.

Joe
