With apple and pear I've grafted from early spring when the stock is still dormant up until the beinning of July with good success. With plum I find a better success rate when the stock is dormant.

Subject: [OFEX] Grafting Dormancy?

Hello all,

Is anyone clear on grafting in regards to rootstock dormancy? My basic question is; When is the correct time to graft?

All the literature states that the rootstock needs to have broken dormancy, and be actively growing. However, does that mean the buds have begun to open (mid/late-april) or the leaves are totally developed (may)?

I have never been clear on this.

Thanks,
Tom
