You can check out water heaters at your local Home Depot, Sears or Lowes.
They all offer installation packages that are pretty reasonable. Odds are the
problem is a heating element. If you posses the knowledge and the tools,
replacing the element is the way to go. Get what is called a low density
element. A service call and the parts will be about the cost of a new water
heater.

I like the concept of tankless water heaters. They do have downsides
along with high initial expense. The electric models usually require an
extensive home wiring upgrade. The gas models require special venting
and site requirements.
