I didn't know that there was an inet plan (or an inet-announce for that matter). From looking at the website, the only two lists I knew of were the inet-dev list and the general discussion list. I can't immediately find any reference to either of the lists anywhere. I'm sure if I dig enough through the web site or do some heavy googling I could find them, but most people shouldn't have to go out of their way to do this.

Here are two suggestions I have for the way we do things in the future.

1. Announcements about meetings should definitely be sent to the discussion list no matter what other lists they're sent to. Considering all the other crazy and profoundly tangential stuff we discuss on the discussion list, I don't think that this would be inappropriate.

2. I know the website is in a state of flux and that the current one won't be around forever, but I think at the bare minimum we need put a bright, blue shiny, underlined "mailing lists" link at the top of the existing home page. If we don't make the lists easy to find, we shouldn't be surprised that few people read them.

Yeah, it happened, sort of. And I think we've learned a valuable lesson: there may be no need for inet-announce. Don posted the announcement strictly to that list and not to the discussion list. The only people who showed up were folks on inet-plan. Now I'm not saying that we should get rid of inet-announce just yet. But it clearly says to me that the bulk of the people who go to gatherings are exclusively on the discussion list.

But have no fear, I booked the Speakeasy in Carrboro yesterday for December. There will be announcements on all lists. Don't forget that our anniversaries also includes the givefest so start looking for stuff to donate to the Salvation Army. Speaking of army, I would love for some volunteer to help with care packages for the troops. That would be a different donation bin, or course. Matusiak did this last year but I think he's loaded with work these days...

Oh, we will also have a logo contest for the new INW site. Details coming soon...
