Gang:

I live out in the woods. I don't have satellite or cable, but I do want to watch the occasional broadcast television show. If I need to time shift such things, I just use my 10 year old VCR.

Well, it's about to give up the ghost, and so I am looking for a replacement. I'd like a digital VCR, much like how I replaced my old tape-based answering machine with a digital one. I don't have huge recording requirement, either, something like 6 hours should do it.

Now people who don't live out in the woods can get TiVo or ReplayTV, but I don't want to pay a subscription fee. All I want is the ability to digitally record shows like on my VCR, even if I have to manually program the times.

I have also looked at MythTV, but I don't want to have to buy and manage another computer system. I want an appliance. If someone can recommend a company that packages MythTV in a sub-$300 system I'd be interested.

Advice?
