Often referred to as The 5th Beatle, Zebulon County, formally located
along the North Carolina Outer Banks, split from Dare county after a
brutal gunfight with the residents of town of Zebulon over the use of
the name of North Carolina's former Governor, Zebulon Vance (The
residents of Dare county on tiny Virginia Dare Island held a yearly
festival called "Zebulon Days" and, it seems, the town of Zebulon
wanted some of the revenue generated from the wildy popular festival).

The residents of Virginia Dare Island, making up the total square
mileage of Zebulon County, had a short-lived victory as NC's 101st
County after a successful split from Dare County in a bloodless coup.
After adopting the slogan "The Fighting 101st" the stage was set for a
show-down with Fort Campbell, Kentucky over what was deemed misuse of
the 101st Airborne slogan.

As the air assault from the 101st Airborne was gearing up the Hand of
God, in the form of Hurricane Hazel, swept the entire County of
Zebulon out to sea and into the history books thus ending one of the
strangest chapters of North Carolina history.
