I forgot -- if you're looking for 6 months and up places to stay downtown, West Village is probably a good choice. Warehouse apartments right in downtown, very nice.

I'm not sure that I can recommend places to stay down that way -- the downtown Marriott is near to DBAP, but it sounds like you need something more long term. I'm sure there are some, but I don't know them off hand.

I can say that Duke Forest is both popular and safe for runners (get off I-85 at Duke Univ exit and head toward town), as is East Campus (near downtown at the corner of Main & Broad streets). The American Tobacco trail runs right by DBAP as well, but I'd only recommend running any of them during the daytime or early evening hours due to their seclusion.

Hi Folks,

I may be spending a few nights of the work week in Durham and be looking for
a place to stay (maybe sublet an apartment or rent a room). I'd like a
location convenient to the Durham Bulls Athletic Park and a neighborhood
that would be safe to run in even as it's getting dark.  Safety is the most
important consideration, so if I have to commute a bit to the DBAP area,
that's O.K.  Can those of you who know Durham give me information on areas
that would be safe and areas to avoid?

Thanks much!
