I have a Canon PowerShot SD100.  It's part of the Elph line and does 3.2 megapixels.  That's good for photo quality up to 5x7.  If you like to take good pictures but aren't a photographer, it's features, size, and quality are the best.  Dell occaisionally has great sales on it.  You can watch www.gotapex.com for the deals.  Here's cnet's review - http://reviews.cnet.com/Canon_PowerShot_SD100/4505-6501_7-30472058.html

The rule of thumb for digital cameras is only buy one from people who make cameras with Sony being the exception.  Canon and Nikon are good examples.  Kodak and HP are bad examples.  What makes a camera good is the optics and neither Kodak or HP are in that market.

Also adhere to the other suggestion of sticking to a single feature.  Don't try to get a camcorder to take pictures or vice versa.

For a still camera, I *love* my Canon S200 Digital ELPH. It's *only* a
2 MP one, but they now come up to 4 or 5 MP I think...

However, the movie mode on the S200 only goes up to 30 seconds at the
lowest resolution, and just something like 5 seconds on the higher...

Check this out though:
