Yes, that is definitely helpful! I didn't realize optometry shops would
stock watersports goggles - I was thinking I'd have to get them from a
sports or diving store. I must say, I was hoping to avoid spending the
Big $$$ of professionally-crafted specific-to-me lenses, but I suppose
it will be worth it in the end.

thanks!
Paula

internetworkers will never fail you!

as a former eyecare professional, i can tell you that you should be able
to have goggles made up in your exact rx. some places will carry
pre-made goggles that will have the same spherical rx in both eyes, but
that is not a good option for someone with astigmatism (that would be
your -75 x 090 and -25 x 090 respectively), especially if you intend to
use them in situations where clear vision is key, like rafting. try
calling a few places that have their own in-house labs, and ask them
what they have in stock as far as goggles go. you might have to have the
actual goggles special-ordered, but they should then be able to make up
your exact lenses for it.

the places with in-house labs are your one-hour places like lenscrafters
or optometric eye care center at northgate mall (where i worked for a
while).

additionally, you can call my friend mark tenney who has a small indy
shop in carrboro, does great work, and could use the business. he would
likely have to order your stuff for you:

Tenney Opticians
304 WEAVER ST
STE# 206
CARRBORO, NC 27510
Tel: (919)549-4745
Fax: (919)541-9233

hope that helps!

OK, so this is REALLY not a computer-techie related question, but this
is such a diverse group, I thought it worth asking - perhaps one of you
is married to an opthamologist or something...

I need to buy a pair of prescription swim goggles, and it seems that the
places that sell them only sell lenses in ".5 diopter" increments. I
have a card with my prescription on it, that says:

OD -5.25 -75 x 090
OS -5.25 -25 x 090

I'm presuming the "-5.25" is my "diopter," which means I am in a
dilemma. Do I order -5.0 lenses, -5.5 lenses, or one of each (if the
"-75" etc. stuff is relevant)? Which is going to be better?

If it helps, I will be using the goggles for kayaking and rafting.
Better to have something that won't fall off if you roll over, and those
little croakie-tie straps just don't cut it.
