Altho I am dangerously tempted to ask how you will receive this email response if you are indeed "network-free", instead I will just try to answer your seemingly innocuous question.

Here is the answer as it was told to me: "To burn 'other machine aware' discs on Macintosh, you HAVE TO HAVE Toast."

Why is that the answer? I don't know. After several grand to the Jobs Disciples, I would like my machine to burn cds useable by other friends in my network (non-copyrighted material, of course). But still they (the "Mac Experts" they) insist that I buy more software. Made by a third party. And its called "Toast."

Frightening, I know. I have not purchased this software and I'm not sure if I ever will. Maybe when the demands for Other-than-Mac capable cds are loud enough, I will have to plunge into such a contract agreement, but for now, my Mac is happily Toast-Free.

I haven't "poked at" Disk Copy much, but I don't think it will give you the info you are looking for. In fact, I haven't found it to do much more than open "Disk Image" software packages onto my machine. Alas, I think Apple needs to provide us with a way to burn cds for the rest of those people that don't have a Mac. Altho they should probably buy a Mac anyway. Then we could burn them cds.

dave ;)

p.s. I've used iTunes 4.0.1 to burn perfect, Universally-readable Audio cds, but I don't know if you want Audio cds or Data cds (or how you are currently burning cds).

All-

I've got a question about some quirkiness I've observed in my iMac.

I recently purchased an iMac with a super drive and I'm trying to get it
to burn CDs. The CDs that I burn all seem to work splendidly provided
that I read them on my iMac. Any other machine and they come up looking
blank or appear as a single monolithic audio track that won't play.

I've tried investigating whether it's just using some sort of proprietary
file system, but I can't figure out how to poke the Disk Copy program into
giving me this information about any of my disc images or the CD itself.
Added to this is the fact that all of the Disk Copy documentation is
on-line and I'm network free at home at the moment.
