The Web Site Optimization book, and companion site, was assembled by Andy
King, founder of Webreference.com and JavaScript.com, a longstanding good
geek with excellent cred. So, it's worth a look.

It's also worth pointing out that these figures are for Internet users,
and /not/ as a percentage of the total population or households. I know
that's what you wanted, but still - I was surprised to see that 34% of
the US had broadband, until I realized that's not what it says.
