A couple weeks before Christmas there was a request to donate household
items to a woman whose home was destroyed by fire. I was wondering if
anyone who had promised items was able to follow through and what the
outcome was. I contacted the woman whose name was given (Heather McColl)
as coordinating the collection to offer a vacuum cleaner, microwave,
cordless phone, and ironing board. She wrote back and said it was
appreciated but then we couldn't seem to coordinate a way to get her the
items. She said a friend would come get them, and then I don't remember
what else she said, but then there was total silence for about 3 weeks. I
wrote her again after Christmas and asked if the items were still needed.
She replied and said she had been traveling, and then sick, but said I
should contact the recipient directly and gave me a phone number and a
hotmail address. I thought it would be awkward to just call this woman up
on the phone. I don't know if she really needs this stuff. If she lived in
a house with 3 dogs, wasn't she the owner? Didn't she have insurance? Does
she really want other people's old housewares? I emailed her a week ago
but have had no reply.

So now I don't really know what to think. I now have the added wrinkle
that my sister, who had left the country for a while, has come back and
intends to settle in Raleigh. She has nothing but a couple suitcases and
I'm sure she could use the extra housewares I have. In fact the microwave
was hers to begin with and she gave it to me when she left. I think she is
entitled to at least have that given back, but I would like to give her
the other things as well. I just feel bad because I had already offered
them to this other person, who either doesn't care or else is maybe having
an even worse time than any of us know.

Does anyone know what happened?
