Everyone,

A former co-worker of mine is helping out one of her employees who experienced recent pair of tragedies (see below), the most recent, losing everything she owned this last weekend in a house fire.  I have been assisting Heather MacColl to help Tara get back on her feet.  Like many of us, Tara has been unemployed for a long time, and has only been able to find part-time work as a temporary receptionist since her last full-time employer closed their doors.

Heather is a partner in One Source a local staffing agency, and is coordinating the relief effort.  So far, the Triangle United Way will help with various services such as helping arrange temporary housing, and short term assistance paying outstanding utility bills, etc.  A Crabtree Mall store has volunteered a clothing drive.

Household items such as lamps, kitchen, bedroom, bath, tables, chairs, etc. are needed right now.  Clothing items have been coming in, but I'm sure anything will be appreciated.

If anyone is interested in donating household items, would you please contact Heather directly?  She is compiling a list of pledged and received goods.

I myself donated a coffee maker & grinder, a set of sheets, a blanket, a pillow, a set of old plates, an assortment of glasses/mugs/silverware, a few pieces of cookware, a pair of Samsonite suitcases, and a 20 lb bag of dog food for her "children".

If you have large items you would like to donate, Heather may or may not have room at One Source, so you might want to call Heather first to see whether it makes sense to pledge the item, and hold onto until Tara has a new home.

This last week has been hard on many of us, and even if do not donate to Tara, PLEASE THINK of someone who could benefit from the things you have and don't use.

Many thanks and best wishes to all.

Dan

Dear Friends,

On Saturday evening, one of my contractors (temps), Tara, lost her
house and all of its contents in a fire. The generator she had been using
to keep warm blew up somehow, setting her house on fire. It is a total
loss. She escaped with her three dogs and the clothes on her back. As if
this is not a sad enough story, Tara's mother just died on 11-24-02 from
brain injuries she suffered in a car wreck in late October on her way up
here to visit Tara. I cannot even comprehend how Tara has the strength to
go on, but she is staying positive!

When I asked her this evening how I could help, she told me that she really
could use a helping hand. She needs clothes and shoes to get back to work-
just for starters. Later, when she has had a chance to find an apartment,
she will need some household items. I told her I would talk to my friends
and see if we could all pitch in. If everyone could help out a little, Tara
will benefit a lot!!!

Will you please look through your closets and see if you have any
gently-used clothes you might be able to give to her? Or, might you be able
to give Tara an early Christmas present and give her/help her buy some new
things? Tara wears a 10 or 12 in clothing. Her shirt and sweater size is a
large. Her shoe size is a 8.5 or 9. She needs it all- shirts, shoes,
sweaters, pants, shorts, pj's, undies, etc etc etc.

I am doing all of the "collecting" for Tara. I am happy to come by and pick
up anything, or you can mail it to Tara Dunn, in care of One Source. Our
office address is below. (She is staying at a hotel courtesy of the Red
Cross for the next few days, so I do not have a home address for her...) If
you want to send her a check or a gift card, I am sure that would be great,
too! Again, her name is Tara Dunn. Just make a check out to her.

Thanks for helping me help Tara! If you have any questions, please give me
a call or email me! Thanks!!!

Sincerely,
Heather
