IBM Unveils "On-Demand" Service Plan For Servers

Research Triangle Park, N.C. -- IBM, one of the major technology employers
in RTP, has unveiled a plan to sell space on its mainframes and bill
companies for the amount of computing power they use. The company said the
new service -- called Linux Virtual Services -- will allow customers to
buy server power in increments, thereby reducing costs. "Today's
introduction of Linux Virtual Services marks a major expansion of IBM's
strategy to deliver e-business on demand," the company said in a
statement.
