i really held myself back on this one, but I suppose from my email addy
you might have guessed i'd be a big enviro-geek, and i just can't not
say something here.

the only way we are going to get the air improved around here anytime
soon is to get people out of their cars and onto public transportation
(unless someone wants to sneak around at night and install hydrogen fuel
cells in every vehicle). and the only way to make that feasible is to
get the govt to make funding and improving PT a priority. A world-class
urban area (which i like to think we are) deserves a world-class PT
system, with a light rail network and a low-polluting or zero-polluting
bus fleet.

if I could go out my door, walk to the corner, catch a clean bus running
on a frequent schedule over a few blocks to the train station and hop a
cool little commuter train to the Park, I'd be overjoyed. But right now,
Durham's buses are dirty and infrequent, and there's no rail for the
"long haul" to the Park, or to Raleigh. My highly varying work schedule
thus necessitates commuting by car. that's sad.

check out this article for one take on how the Bush administration is
dealing with air pollution and global warming:
http://www.alternet.org/story.html?StoryID=13319 I suppose I should
note here this is not necesarily the opinion of my employer and should
not be construed as such. :-)
