Hey,
has anyone heard of any efforts to make sure
that local Muslims are protected from
harrassment at the hands of other upset
Americans? I would love to think that
this is something that we could all combat
at a local level, at least to the level
of speaking out against stereotypical
speech and actions.
I'm not so worried in this area, but
I think about my hometown where Middle
Easteners were so few that they were
known simply as the "Arab girl/boy,"
even if they were Indian...
I stumbled on to the O'Reilly factor
tonight... the old drug czar (Bennett?)
was already talking up the value
of racial profiling. But on an encouraging
note, when a caller suggested that
all Arabs be "rounded up," O'Reilly
adamently denounced that as a bad
idea.
