Hello all,

This is my first post, so please be gentle.....

One small comment in the M$Soft FUD discussion. Many (if not most) GPL/OSS
software runs on the dread Win32 platform. I use emacs, mozilla and cygwin
to make my company mandated win-blows machines useful.

My real point is that it's key to note the GPL/OSS can run on win-doze (and
most
platforms for that matter). Where did I put that copy of MS-Office/390....

I did attend the Mug Shots meeting, it was a blast. I got lost (which I am
very
good at), and was an hour late. To make up for it, fate reserved a street
parking
spot directly across from the bar for me.

What fun!

Jim

I take this type of MS campaign has a good sign, that they're being hurt by
open source. Personally, I'm much more interested in open, public protocols
than open source, but anything that hurts MS is good for the technology
industry.

My guess is that MS is worried about the effect that open source is having on
the developer and business communities. As more software talent is attracted
towards writing software that runs on other platforms that Windows, the more
viable the non-Microsoft software solutions become. I don't really think MS
is worried about the details of the GPL; their main concern is most GPL'd
software doesn't run on Windows, and that's a bad thing if you depend on a
monopoly to make money.
