My, what a lively discussion. I must say, I'm having a great time.
For the record, I refrained from calling my piece "How to Talk Like a
Southerner," because I haven't spent much time in any other parts of the
South, so I don't know what expressions people elsewhere use. I also
stuck with idioms and stayed away from phonetically depicting how words
are pronounced, for two reasons: because I know that the differences in
pronunciation change practically from county to county; and because I've
seen some such attempts come across as unfunny at best and insulting at
worst.
I also tried to stick with things you would be just as likely to hear
from a Beau as from a Bubba.
On a tangent: Ask me sometime about the Doll Room and what it means to
krompse through the kremble in the rumble closet.
