If you're looking for some really wacky, zeitgeist-fueled scfi, try
Cory Doctorow's _Down and Out in the Magic Kingdom_. It's a lot of fun.

Sarah Waters' _The Fingersmith_ is excellent - Victorian-era tale of a
pickpocket, a master thief, a plan, and lives lived as untruths. Just out
in paperback. You can almost smell the streets of London.
