That should be a PacBell or whatever they are calling themselves now, area. She should probably qualify for the Lifeline and that would mean billing the installation charge over 3 months and then a monthly bill, if you decline all the extras including long distance, of about $8 or $9. Get her a 99 cent store long distance card. Penny a minute, no monthly access fees, no 3 minute minimums. Just a penny a minute.
One of the problems in a convo is that other folks are sometimes inclined to use the phones, be they landline or cell, of the patients. Big long distance or minutes bills suddenly appear. A landline with no long distance cures that problem.
