You can be anything you choose. Self-perception is critical. How you are viewed by others does not put bread on your plate.

comes and goes on this list as it does on most. First, I suppose I
am reminding myself, is to consider the source. Is the view coming
from the worker of the land, or is it from some other focus … or none
at all?

This speaks to one of my prevailing muses these days: the need to focus on one's plan versus being sloshed here and there by the waves of the media. Yes, there are certain things in each of our lives that are or may be affected by the current economic zoo of all the financial animals run amuck. Yes, we should be aware of how our lives might be affected and adjust accordingly. But from a homesteading viewpoint, very little of that zoo will directly affect us. Better to focus on our personal plans than on what mad Madoff has done and how his actions affect New York developers, or the roller-coaster financial markets, or the price of gold, etc., etc., etc.
