For the past couple of days, I have been ripping up sheets, sewing the
ends together, and folding the strips then sewing them so that I don't
have raveling issues. I now have hundreds of feet of 1" wide
multi-layered fabric strips that I could braid.(probably close to 750
feet now, hopefully 1000+ before the day is out.) I intend to create
even more strips before I actually start the braiding process. I'm only
about 25% of the way through the fabric/sheets that I intend to use for
this purpose. One good thing is that thread color at this point is not
important, so I am able to use up a lot of old thread as the bobbin and
top thread colors don't need to match. All I have to do is to keep the
strips from raveling until they can be tightly braided. It is amazing
how much thread I have-some of it I don't even know where I got it
from-maybe my grandmother who has been dead for over 10 years. I
suspect that is the case with a large purple spool I have.
So this project is coming along.
Has anyone here actually made a rug or something similar from
sheets/scrap material? I don't know that I have questions, but tips
from someone who has been there might be good..I am thinking that I want
to make chair pads first. I've had my DR suite almost 20 years, and
never had pads on the chair seats. I think the braided ones are nice,
so that is probably what I will do first.
