I used to do the nose to flank flip and then hogtie them but even turning over a 250 pounder was a bit hard on the back, so I stick mine on the goat milking stand. Stick the stand at the end of loading shoot and in they go. I have two of the portable fence section that I stick on the side and then slam the neck thingy shut and they aren't going anywhere!

Of course, it is a lot noisier than flipping them <g> About half of them stand there bleating the whole time. Oh well, I can do them in half the time it takes with them flipped!

You don't just tip them up on their rump like the pros? I tried it, and
had so much trouble keeping them (and me) upright that I couldn't
maneuver to shear them. I'm no weakling, but my ewes are 250-300 pounds.
I finally developed the "knock them down and sit on them" technique. I
had a few escape in mid-shearing, dragging their fleece behind them. How
embarrassing. I say let a professional do it. I get nicer fleeces to
work with (no messy blood spots...mine or sheep...).
