"Bless their hearts" and such are not euphemisms. A euphemism is a word or
phrase substituted for one that cannot be mentioned because it is not
acceptable in the discourse.
Saying "n-word" instead of "nigger" is a euphemism. In most cases it is
unacceptable to even say or write the latter so the former is substituted and
everyone knows the word for which it stands.
To say that Palin's use of "by Gosh" and "bless their hearts" are euphamisms,
is to say that there was another word (or pharase) she had in mind, she was
substituting one for the other, AND (this is the important part) her audience
readily understood what the unspoken word was and that she intended that to
be
the meaning.
Sooo .... 'by Golly' and such ..... what is it she was substituting when she
used those words? </HTML>
