The article describes as 'pot still' as the oldest and simplest type of still.
Not so.
The following still is far simpler but it is very inefficient. It's forte is
that if you had to disassemble it in a hurry, all you have left are common
household items and no 'paraphenalia'.
You'll have to bear with me and visualize this"
Put the wort in a very large stockpot. Make a tripod of three clean dowels
tied together 1/3 way from the top. Stand the tripod in the stockpot and
put
a large, round bottom steel mixing bowl in the fork of the tripod. Fill
that
bowl with ice.
Put a small bowl or jar just underneath the steel mixing bowl, either
suspending it from the dowls or else on an upturned bowl in the stock pot.
Follow the picture?
Heat the wort. As the vapors rise, they condense on the outsides of the
mixing bowl and run down to the bottom where they drip into the catch bowl or
cup.
You lose a lot of the goodies to the atmosphere, but you can set it up with
things you have around your kitchen and when you are done there's nothing
still-like left to secret away.
