"People live, love, and die, but sports fills the news."

Marx said that religion is the opiate of the people. Today, sports has
become our religion. Is it now our opiate? Opiates are not always bad.
While they do dull our senses, they also ease our pain.

I watched the game and enjoyed it. I rooted for Kansas, but would have bet
on Memphis, as I thought they were the stronger team. Just glad I don't bet
on ball games, as I would lose regularly.

However, here are two headlines from the NYTimes that I read before reading
the account of the basketball game, both of which may portend a trend that
could have more impact on us than does sports.
