- Subject: [Homestead] Electrolytic Derusting
- Date: Fri, 21 Dec 2007 14:57:37 -0600
I am putting back together my old International and doing something new ( to me ) on the rusted parts, electrolytic derusting.
Here is a good link:
http://www.stovebolt.com/techtips/rust/electrolytic_derusting.htm
My setup is a plastic trashcan, 12 volt battery charger, a 4 foot piece of 1 inch steel pipe, and a box of baking soda. I have the positive attached to the steel pipe and the negative attached to the rusted hood of my tractor and all soaking in the trashcan. I am very happy with the results. I was planning on sand blasting but some folks on another list suggested this.
