I haven't heard anything on the job, which I am taking as a bad sign that they don't want to pay me what I want, so while I can, I am still playing in the dirt.

FWIW, they have not contacted me for a reference.

A couple of folks wrote email references..I think they got 4 or 5, and
were really impressed that the 'reviews' came from as far away as
Canada. I know they checked with previous employers, too, so I think I
am past that part of the process. The last email I got said:
Yes, your interview with Matt went well....what were your impressions? We are in the middle of deciding a start date, duties and salary. This next week is going to be hectic, as we have an important deadline for a trial on a new product. Probably will hear from us very early March.......and please start calling me Bob.

So, it sounds like I'm hired, but then, I gave them salary information
as a response to the above note. I might have priced myself too high,
and right now, I am worried about a lowball offer.
We'll see.

Perhaps someone in your community has had better cucurbit germination
and can trade you some for something you have. If not, that might be
a plan to implement for the future. Tough to be an island.

Good idea. I was growing some Bloody Butcher tomatoes to sell on
consignment at the local feed store. About half of them were too close
to the window and got too hot, I think, so I lost them. But, I still
have Amish Paste and a few other toms I could trade.
I only have one neighbor who sometimes has a garden. George puts Sevin
on his squash, so I wouldn't really want to trade. Besides, I doubt he
will have a garden this year as he was diagnosed with prostate cancer
last week, had surgery last week, and in the preops for that surgery,
two cardiac blockages were found, so he will have to have open heart
surgery next. Not a good year for gardening next door. I just hope
he's around to grow stuff in '08. I've learned a lot from George. He
taught me to gut a deer, render lard, sight in a rifle, and a whole
bunch of other stuff.
