Ever been near a big-city landfill? They are now typically located far from the city, so require lots of trucks burning lots of fuel, producing lots of air pollution, not to mention reliance on Mideast oil.
Much, much less "garbage" is left after going through the thing. And it produces a surplus of electricity that can be sold. And it produces no air pollutants. And after ten years it produces pure profit.
